About the Artist

Alaina Joelle is a still-life oil painter based in Bowling Green, Ohio, where she is pursuing a BFA in studio art at Bowling Green State University. Originally from Canton, Michigan, she plans to return to her hometown after graduation to continue developing her artistic practice. During her time at BGSU, Alaina discovered her passion for still-life painting and began cultivating a distinctive style that reflects her personal vision. Working primarily in oil, she explores the transformation of everyday life onto canvas, translating familiar objects through her own perspective and hand. In her process, she aims to evoke a sense of indirect nostalgia and quiet comfort in viewers, allowing them to connect with the objects she depicts in meaningful ways.

Alaina’s dedication to her craft has already been recognized during her time at school. During her junior year, she had two pieces featured in the undergraduate show, for which she earned the Doris Marie Herner Award for one of them. Looking ahead, she hopes to continue growing her portfolio beyond the academic setting by taking on commission work. At the same time, she plans to earn her nail license, merging her love for fine art with the creativity and precision of nail design.
